Whether it’s Christmas, someone’s birthday, anniversary, farewell party and all sorts of occasions, if you’re looking for gifts with a traditional touch, the Dubai Antique Musuem in Al Quoz is the place to be. Contrary to its name, the Antique Musuem is no ordinary museum.

It is in fact a museum cum souvenirs shop and warehouse. It is a treasure trove of finest quality pashminas from Kashmir, wooden and stuffed camels, fridge magnets, gold and silver wares, Arabic tea cup sets, rustic home décor, Dubai shirts and polo shirts and so much more. You will find here almost anything and everything that is sold in souvenir shops all over Dubai.

What’s more you not only get quality products, you also get to haggle for the best price. Although items are already packed and labeled, the staffs are very accommodating. They will gladly guide you through the maze-like and expansive ‘warehouse’ cum ‘museum’ and open the products for you to check. If you’re very good at haggling, I’m sure you’ll get a pretty good deal.

Although the unwritten ‘rule of thumb’ when it comes to haggling is to go for half the price of what’s on offer at the initial negotiation stage, I’m just not good at it. I did get items for less than half the price of what I would pay outside. So if you’re a very good haggler, just imagine what you would get out of the place. They are one of the main suppliers in Dubai anyway so you know you’re getting good quality products at stellar prices.

Better yet, if you are a tourist in Dubai, have a guest visiting the UAE or you’re hoping to bring some of the desert oasis with you to wherever you’re vacationing, the Antique Museum is at your service. They are open throughout the year, from 9am – 8pm.

This unassuming shop is found near the 3rd Interchange on Sheikh Zayed Road (along Manara Street). Coming from Dubai, take Exit 42, and climb the bridge that crosses to Al Quoz and passes by Times Square Mall and the Gargash Mercedes Benz Showroom on the left. At the traffic light, take a left turn. Then turn right onto the second street, and again right when you see a big tree and a small restaurant on the right side.

Coming from Abu Dhabi, take the exit/ service road to Times Square Mall. From there turn tight just before the bridge (at the Mercedes Benz/ Gargash Showroom). Then turn left at the traffic light. Turn right onto the second street, and again right when you see the big (presumably) Al Sidr tree and a small restaurant on the right side. Note, the Museum is right behind the tree so it’s not easy to see especially at night. Try to go only at daytime as the place can look dodgy at night.

As the old saying goes, ‘do buy in Du-bai’…Well, do buy in moderation. Enjoy shopping. Feel free to share this with friends and family to let them know of this hidden gem in Dubai.
